According to the National Pet Owners Survey conducted by the American Pet Products Association (APPA), more than 6 million homes in the United States possess birds. The budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus), sometimes referred to as the budgie, shell parakeet, or (erroneously) lovebird, is one of the most popular options.
Why are budgies such wonderful pets? Firstly, their hundreds of color variations make them aesthetically pleasing. They're also cordial.
According to veteran budgie owner Michael Rose, "I've never owned a bad-tempered budgie, and they've always been great company and incredibly sociable birds who enjoy being stroked," HowStuffWorks reported.
Being talkative birds, budgies can learn to interact with people through chirps, chatter, and whistles. Budgies thrive in couples since they are gregarious birds. To enable your budgies to fly around and investigate their surroundings, get them a spacious cage (at least 12 x 18 x 18 inches, or 30.5 x 45.7 x 45.7 cm).
